Additional compensation secured for late implementation of the collective agreement

1 September 2021 • CMCFA Executive

Dear Colleagues. You may have noticed an additional payment of $1,000 with an annotation of “Damages - Late CAI“ under the Entitlements and Deductions section of your Phoenix Pay Stub dated 2021/09/01. This is the result of the negotiation of additional compensation for every member who was covered by the UT Collective Agreement when it was signed in 2019, plus even more compensation for any members who faced significant delays in having the terms of the new agreements applied to them.

You will recall that UTs received four days of vacation leave credits as compensation for damages caused by the Phoenix Pay system in 2019, and an additional day of vacation leave credit in 2020 under the June 2019 Memorandum of Agreement on Damages caused by the Phoenix Pay System. This MOA made provisions for catch-up clauses, which were signed on October 23, 2020. Under these catch-up clauses, the Employer will compensate all current employees with a lump sum payment of $400 for 2016/2017 and $200 for each of the 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 fiscal years for the late implementation of the 2014 collective agreements. Current employees will receive this $1,000 payment in the fall of 2021, many having received it on September 1, 2021; former employees will be eligible for compensation for the years they were employed, following the submission of a claim and its validation; we are seeking details on the claims procedure and will provide them as soon as possible.
